Time’s Person of the Year: Mo’bama

Time Magazine has named President Barack Obama the 2012 Person of the Year.  Check out the article below:

There is something very bittersweet about this article, though I can’t exactly put a finger on it.  The writing is simultaneously wistful and hopeful; it captures a sense of youthful naivete tempered by the grit of experience.

Whether you voted for Obama or not, I think this is a great article to read.  Reacquaint yourself with the man who will be leading the US for the next four years.

Programming genes to fight off cancer

Medicine is really amazing.  A 7 year-old girl is in complete remission from the most acute form of leukemia after undergoing an experimental treatment that injected cancer-cell-killing T-cells into her veins.  Basically, they programmed her own cells to kill cancer.  What’s amazing is that it WORKED.  This is after she had already exhausted all of her other options, including exhaustive chemotherapy.
